Etobicoke Centre

Etobicoke Centre has been my home for over 24 years. When I look around our riding, I see many things that we can be thankful for. We have a standard of living that is second to none. We have perhaps the greenest and most beautiful community in all of Toronto. We have safe streets, terrific schools, friendly neighbours, and diverse and interesting cultures. In our homes and in our neighbourhoods we share celebrations with the Italian community, the Somali community, the German community, the Ukrainian community, the Polish community, just to name a very, very few. It is all of us together that make Etobicoke Centre one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in all of Toronto.

You will agree that Etobicoke Centre is a wonderful place to raise a family. From Centennial Park in the west, to the winding Humber River and tranquil James Gardens in the east, --and from Dixon in the north, to Markland Wood in the south, our neighbourhood is varied, vibrant, prosperous, and welcoming to all who live here. Etobicoke Centre offers hope and inspiration for all and is a small-knit community within the big city. I cannot help but feel that we are truly lucky to live where we do.

It is because I cherish this multicultural and varied community that I am running to be your Member of Parliament. While we live in such a wonderful area, there is still work to be done.

We need to ensure that Etobicoke Centre families can breathe clean air. It is unacceptable that the incidence of childhood asthma has increased so dramatically and that many with breathing difficulties suffer throughout the summer months.

We need to ensure that our streets remain safe. It is unacceptable for children, families, or seniors to be afraid to go out into our community.

We need to work together to upgrade our city's infrastructure and quality of life. It is unacceptable that all 3 levels of government spend much of their time squabbling instead of partnering to improve transportation and services.

With almost half of our Etobicoke-Centre population born outside of Canada, we need to ensure that our newest Canadians are successfully integrated both economically and socially. It is unacceptable to bring immigrants to this great country, with hopes and dreams, and throw obstacles in their way that prevent them from realizing their potential.

And with the largest population of seniors of any riding in Ontario, we need to ensure that our Seniors - who have spent their lives building this great nation - have a strong voice in government, a functioning medical system, and financial security.

Dear friends and neighbours, our quality of life here in Etobicoke Centre should not be taken for granted. That is why I am running to be your Member of Parliament. I will work with you to deal with these issues and see to it that Etobicoke Centre once again has strong, positive, constructive representation in Ottawa.
